A quartet of Georgia artists will compete this week at the Hard Rock Café Atlanta for a chance to perform during halftime at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
The acts are among those selected from more than 6,000 entrants worldwide and will perform a free, all ages concert at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the downtown outpost of the popular eatery/venue (and in the essence of full disclosure, my colleague Jewel Wicker and I will be judges at this round of the competition).
In addition to the major spotlight of a stadium performance, the winner will also receive a Fender prize package and a professionally produced music video that will be played in Hard Rock locations worldwide.
Here are the local acts competing in Hard Rock Rising: Battle of the Bands:
Revel In Romance – A five-piece alt-pop-rock band from Atlanta that has been featured at several prominent festivals, including the Warped Tour and SXSW. The band’s singer, Saxony Raine, won the 2016 best female rock artist accolade at the Georgia Music Awards.
Alexandrea Lushington – For more than a decade, the Atlanta native regularly performed the national anthem for the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks, WNBA and at City of Atlanta events. She was also a featured artist on “The 808 Experiment,” volumes one and two, with the hip-hop collective SMKA.
Elder Sun – The rock band based in Atlanta counts Tom Petty, R.E.M., Nirvana, Kings of Leon, Neil Young and Foo Fighters among their influences. The group’s music has been regularly featured on Radio 105.7, Rock 100.5 and 99X, along with countless streaming services.
Bishop Lake – Founded in 2011 by singer/songwriter Zane (formerly of Halcyon Way), the hard rock-metal band has sharpened its chops with its live shows. The band has undergone a few lineup changes, but plans to release new material with the current crew. If you’re a fan of Danzig, the Misfits or Ozzy Osbourne, time to tune in.
