The Masquerade move to Kenny’s Alley postponed until November

BY MELISSA RUGGIERI/AJC Music Scene blog
The move of The Masquerade to a renovated space at Underground Atlanta will take a few weeks longer than anticipated.
Concerts will continue to be held at the original location on North Avenue until at least Nov 4. In September, venue management had a projected date of late October to move to Kenny’s Alley, adjacent to Underground Atlanta downtown.
The temporary relocation of The Masquerade, a treasure to rock and punk fans since the early ‘90s, was prompted by a recent lawsuit to prevent the venue from moving to a new space on westside.

Great idea!
I hope they change that corny, dated sign. It hasn't yet passed into "retro chic" status--it's just bad.
Attention African Americans - Don't pay any attention to the negative ignorant posts. I'm white and have been to the Masquerade many times at night and during the day. I never been robbed and never saw anyone get robbed. I'm guessing it will be the same at Underground. The folks making dumb comments most likely live in the burbs and don't like punk, metal, rock music and certainly don't like black people. Though they would never admit it to your face. Not all white people are race baiting fear mongers.
@Solid where the hell have YOU been? under a rock? Read any papers from years gone by? Underground is constantly closing because of AFRICAN gangs shooting and looting and harrassing the WHITE people. If you are white, I am the pope! BS! NO white people go to underground. It is down town Zimbabwe. On any given night, there are enough Africans to make a Tarzan movie! White people want to watch the news, not BE the news.
Grow a pair. Thousands of white students at GSU walk around that area daily at night and during the
day
White Southners racism is always front and Center about anything. when in doubt be racist or show your hate. Dont worry you are the minority now and you keep getting smaller. (no pun intended to white males)_
In my 50 years in metro Atlanta, been to Masquerade 4 times. Three were excellent times, overlooking the crime and run down area - one was "oh, so okay" but nothing special. Had I not known the entertainer(s) or had other options, I would not have been there. Not going to be visiting it at Underground either.
It doesn't matter because no one in their right mind that is Caucasian will step a foot near Underground Atlanta after dark.
@AtlantaAntiTerror Generally speaking, my last visit to Underground was 1993, perhaps 1992. Again, had it not been for specifically knowing entertainer, and being in the area, I would not have made trip there. Thank goodness Dante had skill set to relocate to Buckhead
[…] After a few delays in its migration from longtime home on North Avenue, the essence of the scrappy rock club has relocated downtown to Kenny’s Alley of Underground Atlanta. […]
