Rich Homie Quan has been suitably chastened.

After the Atlanta rapper was annihilated on social media for his major gaffe during Monday’s live broadcast of VH1’s “Hip Hop Honors” – he forgot the Notorious B.I.G. lyrics during the Junior M.A.F.I.A. hit, “Get Money” – Quan has publicly apologized.

His statement:

I assure you that I never intended to disrespect the Memory of Biggie Smalls. I have long respected his work and his contribution to the rap game. I greatly apologize not only to Biggie Smalls, but also to all of my fans, Biggie Smalls fans and to New York. The city of New York has been nothing but good to me. I felt honored to stand on stage with artists I grew up listening to. Once on stage I had some technical difficulties and must admit I got nervous. I will forever be sorry New York, my fans, Biggie Smalls, Biggie Smalls Fans,  Lil Kim, and all the Hip Hop community for my performance. I hope you can accept my apology. To Lil Kim, Thank you for the opportunity.

Quan, who was only 6-years-old when the Junior M.A.F.I.A. song was released, wasn’t given a pass for his brain freeze.

A Change.org petition was hastily created – granted, only 100 signatures are requested – suggesting that the hip-hop community ban Quan “until he releases a video of him correctly reciting every Biggie line in ‘Juicy’ and ‘Get Money’.”

Wendy Williams reprimanded Quan on her Tuesday talk show, saying, “First of all, if you’re doing a tribute, you always study the lyrics dummy!”

Watch Quan’s performance with Lil Kim below and decide if that fact that he’s wearing a Coogi sweater in honor of Biggie wasn’t enough to prove his devotion.
