Ex-Destiny’s Child Farrah Franklin arrested in DeKalb

Call her Destiny’s Troubled Child.

Farrah Franklin, who had a brief stint as one of the lesser-known members of the girl group that helped launch Beyonce into the music stratosphere, was arrested for public intoxication and marijuana possession in DeKalb County early Thursday morning, according to online jail records.

According to a DeKalb County Police Department incident report, an officer responded to a call of a drunken individual at 3541 Chamblee Tucker Road just before 3 a.m. Franklin, 35,  was arguing with a male friend outside a Planet Fitness gym. Franklin said she wasn’t ready to go home, the officer reported.

“Ms. Franklin had a very strong odor of alcohol on her breath, her eyes were blood shot red and her speech was slurred,” the report continued. I asked Ms. Franklin how much alcohol she had consumed. Ms. Franklin said, ‘not enough.'”

The officer noticed a “green leafy substance” in Franklin’s purse during a search. She was booked into the DeKalb County Jail.

Formed in Houston in 1990 as “Girl’s Tyme,” the group became Destiny’s Child six years later when it signed with Columbia Records. Their 1999 bestselling album, “Writing’s On the Wall” included the single “Bills, Bills, Bills” — the video in which Franklin appeared as an extra. She met the group’s members at the time and soon after, she and Michelle Williams were brought in as replacements for LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson.

But Franklin only lasted five months with the group. In July 2000, the three remaining members of the Destiny’s Child — Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Williams — called in to “TRL” on MTV to explain that Franklin had missed several performances and promotional appearances.

“We have to say that Farrah was not kicked out of Destiny’s Child,” Beyonce told TRL host Carson Daly, according to an archived story on MTV’s web site. “She actually did not show up for three major promotional events, one of which was ‘MTV All Access . . . We also had a five-day promotional tour in Australia, which was our first visit there and very important, and she didn’t come. So we all agreed that Farrah and Destiny’s Child should part ways, and we wish her the best in the future.”

Franklin’s LinkedIn bio describes her as a “Singer, Actor, Host, Executive Producer” who recently started a private concierge company.
