Nashville loves country, Philly is loyal to Meek Mill and Latin artists have a huge following in Los Angeles.
This, from the Captain Obvious Department.
But actually, the data comes from YouTube, which shared with Billboard a breakdown of musical tastes throughout the country (through 2015) based on YouTube views in certain cities.
While the discoveries were mostly expected, a few tidbits emerged.
In Atlanta, rap ruled. T.I., Migos, Jeezy, Rocko and K Camp had twice as many views here than in any other city. Also, Future receives 2.5 as many YouTube views in Atlanta and Young Thug’s “With That” and “Check” videos (below – and yes, language warning alert) are almost three times as popular in Atlanta.
Heading to Nashville, breakout star Chris Stapleton receives three times as many YouTube views for his videos, while Louisiana rapper Kevin Gates is popular as well, earning three times more views in Nashville than the national average.
New Orleans also digs Gates as well as Juvenile, who gets four times more views than elsewhere in the country.
Chicago still loves R. Kelly and in New York, hometown rappers Nas, Mobb Deep and Cam’ron receive twice as many views. As well, given the city’s large Caribbean population, West Indian artists are much more popular.
