Among Glenn Frey’s many musical pals is Travis Tritt, who released a statement Monday night mourning the loss of his longtime friend and reminding us of his important connection to the band.

“We first met at the video shoot for my version of ‘Take It Easy’ in 1993. He always went out of his way to acknowledge and encourage me ever since. I’m a better person, better musician and a better songwriter having met him,” Tritt said.

In 1993, Tritt released a version of the Eagles’ “Take it Easy,” which he contributed to the tribute album, “Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles.” Though the band was on hiatus at the time, Tritt requested that they appear in his video for the remake.

That reunion led to the Eagles returning for the “Hell Freezes Over” tour that commenced in 1994.

Tritt, who lives in Powder Springs, also supplied this photo of his gathering with the band.
