We heard last month that Cee Lo Green was prepping a new album for release this year, and now it’s official.
Green, an Atlanta native who still lives here part-time, has unveiled the new song “Robin Williams,” a thoughtful R&B-soul jam with a silken groove and a big heart. It’s the first single from his upcoming “Heart Blanche” album, due Nov. 13.
“We don’t know what the next man is going through…we’ve got to laugh the pain away,” he sings in his unmistakable croon.
The song, which Green said in a statement is an “homage to our humanity centered around the strength it takes to smile in the face of adversity,” also name checks Phil Hartman and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The inventive lyric video might make you dizzy after a minute, but its use of Google’s search bar is a creative twist.
“Heart Blanche” marks Green’s first full-length album in nearly five years and also a return to the spotlight, which he has largely avoided since a Twitter controversy last summer.
